1.1 Hello Summer! July 4 & 5th (2 days)

Kick off summer at Camp AQ 2019! Join us for 2 days of a variety of activities including exploration of the AQ, behind the scenes experiences, hands-on crafts, games and experiments.

Week 1 – Mad Scientist in Training July 8 to July 12 (5 days)

Discover science and technology through a full week of experiential learning. Create amazing structures, try wacky experiments, make art using a robot…all while meeting new friends! You won’t believe your eyes when you see some of the amazing experiments! Let’s make ice cream, colourful crystals and learn about the science of slime!

Week 2 – Curious Critters July 15 – July 19 (5 days)

How big does a Musk turtle get? Why do Otters make so many bubbles when they swim? How is it that fish are able to rest and not swim? Animals use specific behaviours and adaptations to survive in their habitats. Throughout the week, we will explore animals as we learn about how they tell us the health of the environment. We will even take a walk with a real Aquarist!

Week 3 – Soaring into Space July 22 to July 26 (5 days)

Come explore the cosmos through our own Planetarium. Build rockets and other space technology to take you on a journey through the stars. Walk on the moon and investigate like a real astronaut.  The learning possibilities are infinite (like space itself)!!

Week 4 – Budding Biologists July 29 to August 2 (5 days)

Join us for an engaging, week long adventure  focusing on the basics of biology! This will include indoor and outdoor studies, nature walks, art projects, research,  observation and lots of hands-on activities!

Week 5 – Ropes Ahoy Adventure August 6 to August 9 (4 days)

Join us for an amazing 4 days of exploration, orienteering, climbing and traversing. Not only will campers be learning to navigate on our own high ropes course at the AQ, we will have an off-site excursion to Skywood Eco Centre to experience the Discovery courses. Note: younger campers who do not meet minimum age/reach for the AQ ropes course will have alternative adventure activities at the AQ and will participate in the Tree Walk course at Skywood Eco Centre.

Week 6- Lights, Camera, ARTS! August 12 to August 16 (5 days)

Let’s get creative! Channel your inner Director while we make movies. Get your groove on with dance and music; harness your creativity with writing and visual arts; act away with amazing drama activities! Let’s see how powerful your artistic voice can be!

Week 7 – Wildlife in our Backyard August 19 to August 23 (5 days)

The world outside your door is filled with things that buzz, tweet, squawk, flutter, scurry, build, burrow, hoot, chase, pounce, and soar in your own backyard. Join us on an exploration of what makes backyards very magical places. We will take a closer look at at the wildlife living all around us. Whether downtown, out in the woods, or somewhere in between, you will learn about some of the remarkable plants, birds and animals that live in our own backyards.

Week 8 – Otterly Amazing August 26 to August 30 (5 days)

This week features “the best of the best”! All week we will relive the highlights of the past weeks of Camp AQ 2019. Favourite experiments, excursions, activities and games and will make for an Otterly Amazing way to end the summer.

We have several ways to volunteer at the Aquatarium, each with their own additional benefits and opportunities. We invite you to visit our VOLUNTEER page on the website to learn how you can join our team and become a part of our Aquatarium family for years to come!

Our otters are rescued North American river otters and are not domesticated. As such, they have a different temperament than those you may see on line where people are interacting with otters one on one. Those otters are usually Asian Small Claw otters and are not native to the St. Lawrence river. As there is no safe way to allow people, including our team members, to directly interact with river otters, we are unable to offer close encounters with them.

No. With the exception of our salt water touch tank, all our fish and animals in the Aquatarium are native to the St. Lawrence River area. We have otters, pike, sturgeon, carp, trout and bass just to name a few.

Follow us on our social media accounts (FacebookTwitter and Instagram) which we update regularly.

The experience takes approximately 90 minutes. However, this time will vary from person to person.

We take reservations for weddings, meetings and events. Book your special day with us now, and host your special day at one of the most exciting attractions in the 1000 Islands! Contact our Events Team to discuss all the details at: [email protected]

Yes! As long as you provide your admission receipt at the front desk before leaving ON THE DAY YOU PURCHASED the admissions, all the funds can be applied towards a yearly Friends membership! Remember, if you visit us a total of three times in a year, it will have paid for itself!

Yes, we have a limited number of wheelchairs available for visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.

We feature many types of fish that are indigenous to the St. Lawrence River and the surrounding 1000 Islands area. River otters, various reptiles, amphibians and many more friendly critters call the Aquatarium their permanent home. Ongoing guest speakers and scientists bring in different and unique species for special Aquatarium visits. We list them on our calendar of events so be sure not to miss them!

We are located at the foot of Broad Street in Brockville, Ontario, Canada, right on the waterfront. We are in the first floors of the Tall Ships Landing building and even offer indoor parking off Flint Street.  Our address is:
6 Broad St.,
Brockville, Ontario

Yes! We have a Family Day-Pass. See the admission section for details.

The Aquatarium is a registered not-for-profit charity who’s mission it is to inspire curiosity through enriching and entertaining experiences. The Aquatarium offers a full range of interactions & activities for kids, teens and adults, as guests are encouraged to experience life in the 1000 Islands region. Guests participate in hands-on interactive exhibits as well as seeing many species of fish and animals, such as otters, native to the St. Lawrence River. We have several replica ships that are found in the St. Lawrence river, as well as amazing experiences such as green screen adventures and a salt water touch tank! We seek to rekindle a passion for learning and engage visitors in the distinctive history, culture and environment of the 1000 Islands.
